A Story of Betrayal

Wednesday July 1, 2009

Deviating from my traditional myriad of updates, I’m going to take some time out to remind everyone that our elected officials work for us. They hold the office, but we hold the power.

Ted Strickland seems to have forgotten a simple law of nature. You don’t bite the hand that feeds you. During Ted Strickland’s 2006 gubernatorial campaign, 98 individual contributors who listed their occupation as Librarian contributed to his campaign; the SEIU Local 1199 which represents among others, Librarians in Ohio, contributed over $60,000 alone.

Hundreds of Union Contributors donated millions of dollars to Ted Strickland in 2006. Click here for a list of Union Contributors to Ted Strickland’s 2006 gubernatorial campaign. Check them out, contact them, and ask if they will stand in solidarity with their union brothers with the SEIU, APLE, and AFSCME who stand to lose their jobs if Strickland’s budget cuts are allowed.

Click here for a sample letter to send to unions. They contributed millions of dollars in 2006, their members individually contributed millions more. Their support should not be rewarded with spots in unemployment lines because Strickland slashed library budgets while advocating the interests of gaming.

Contact your local reps, contact the unions in the list above, and let them know of the slaughter in the statehouse.

Mr. Strickland, you’ve nipped at us, it’s time to send you to obedience school. You’re not a bad person, but it appears you need a lesson in both civility and civil service.
